Rue is an evergreen shrub with bitter strongly-scented leaves traditionally used in herbal medicine. It has insecticidal properties which is believed to repel fruit flies. While there is no scientific evidence of this, many people still swear by it. Well, give it a try and see for yourself. Just spread some of this herb in your fruit bowl. Even dried, crushed rue can repel flies just as a fresh bouquet may. It is not expensive, so trying it out is not a problem. Surely another option to consider anyway. What have you got to lose?
