Another strange remedy is using cedar wood. Fruit flies are repelled by the scent of cedar wood. Keep some in your home, as decorations in your kitchen area. Or use it in your fireplace. Keep pieces of cedar wood near possible breeding grounds to deter fruit flies from breeding. Essential oils also work similarly, their scent scares off fruit flies. Try spritzing some essential oils such as lavender, peppermint, or lemongrass. Around 10 drops of one of the oils mixed with 2 ounces of hot water should do the trick.
