Heavy Feeling In The Head

Healthline

The average adult head, made up of the skull, brain tissue, eyes, teeth, facial muscles, and skin, weighs around 10 to 12 pounds. However, there are days when your head can seem heavier than usual and just holding your head in an upright position can feel like a difficult task. Sometimes, it may feel like you have a tight band wrapped around your head, or it feels like it’s underwater.
Usually, there’s no cause for alarm or need to seek emergency medical treatment when your head feels heavy. There are many possible causes for that heavy feeling or pressure in your head, such as a headache, neck pain, or a sinus infection. Dizziness can also affect your balance and cause your head to feel heavier.
Seldomly, a heavy feeling in the head may be caused by more serious conditions, such as a concussion or brain tumor. At other times, it may be caused by underlying medical conditions or balance disorders, including positional vertigo, vestibular neuronitis, or Meniere’s disease. A heavy head may also be associated with anxiety, depression, stress, brain fog, fatigue, and lack of sleep.
