Loss Of Balance

Crozer Keystone

Disequilibrium refers to a loss of balance or equilibrium or a sense of unsteadiness. Balance problems may make you feel like you’re moving, spinning, or tilting to one side even though you are, as a matter of fact, standing or sitting still. A loss of balance does not just make you feel unwell, but it may also result in falls that can lead to broken bones and other injuries. Disequilibrium is often caused by conditions that affect your inner ear and brain. When there’s a problem with the signals your ear sends to your brain, it affects your sense of balance and spatial awareness and can interfere with your daily life.
Aside from inner ear problems and infections, other reasons that may cause a loss of balance include head injuries, a chemical imbalance in your brain, poor blood circulation, low blood pressure (hypotension), high blood pressure (hypertension), neurological disorders, arthritis, aging, and use of certain medications.
