Dizziness Caused By Other Diseases And Health Disorders

How to Cure

While occasional episodes of dizziness aren’t a cause for alarm, persistent dizziness may be a symptom of a more serious health condition. Lightheadedness, fainting, and loss of balance may indicate a brain, neurological, or a psychiatric condition, or they may be symptoms of a metabolic disorder or an endocrine disease.
• Brain conditions. Fainting, confusion, and dementia can be caused by a decrease in blood supply to your brain, resulting in headaches, migraines, a stroke, or a tumor.
• Neurological conditions. Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis (MS) can lead to progressive loss of balance.
• Psychiatric conditions. Anxiety, depression, or stress may cause lightheadedness. Hyperventilation, panic attacks, or agoraphobia (fear of places or situations that may trigger a panic attack) may also cause dizziness.
• Metabolic disorders. Hypoglycemia and hypoxia (low oxygen supply) may result in lightheadedness accompanied by anxiety and sweating.
• Endocrine diseases. Hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) may cause lightheadedness, palpitations, and shortness of breath, and hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone) may cause lightheadedness, weakness, tiredness, and chills.
