A true classic in every sense of the word. Burton and Taylor, the most popular movie idols then, both appeared in the film “Cleopatra” in 1963. Taylor played the lead role as Cleopatra while Burton played the lover Mark Anthony. A classic film with iconic stars. It developed into one of the most talked about love affairs by movie critics for many years to come. Both stars were married to other people when they first started the romance, but quick divorces soon followed. And hollywood welcomed and celebrated the romantic affair. Burton and Taylor married for the first time in 1964. Prior to that, Taylor was married four times. Burton and Taylor divorced in 1974, but remarried the following year. But, the marriage lasted less than a year. Some things are just not meant to be.
