You’ve likely seen this in most family-oriented movies and TV shows set in the 50s or 60s: kids walking or biking up and down the streets of their neighborhoods and beyond, heading to the corner store alone, walking to school alone or with a sibling or friend, etcetera. While this is not a bad practice, per se—some might even call it enviable—it is something that most parents would not dream of allowing, nowadays.
