Having a hairstyle that could survive the apocalypse

Wikipedia

Imagine hair so big and solid that it could almost be used as a fallout shelter for the apocalypse? The bouffant hairdo most certainly comes to mind. The ‘do, first introduced in 1956 by British celebrity hairdresser Raymond Bessone, was popularized in the US in the early 1960s by then First Lady, Jackie Kennedy. It was all the rage with women of all ages. Styling a bouffant involved lots of teasing with a fine-toothed comb, then sleeking and freezing the hair in place with loads (and we mean SO much, it probably caused the first wave of damage to the ozone layer) of hairspray. The result was hair that was utterly unmoving, not to mention, unnatural in appearance. To date, the bouffant still lives, but with a decidedly more modern and softer look. The ozone is thankful, and so are we.

While the 60s had big hair, the 50s had big—really, really big—skirts. With dogs. The next slide tells you more.
