Filling your house with 50s kitsch

While a touch of kitsch makes for an interesting focal point or conversation piece, the 50s were notorious not only for birthing the aesthetic, but also for taking it way, way over the top. Imagine a house full of: couches upholstered in faux leopard skin, vinyl dining chairs with matching chrome tables, living room coffee tables shaped like a single-cell amoeba, linoleum floors and wallpaper in dizzying patterns, carpets in wild designs and colors, space-age looking, UFO-inspired furniture and accessories (known as Googie architecture), the list goes on. And, we mustn’t forget the ever-popular lamp with mannequin legs. Hannibal Lecter, much? Of course, taste is highly subjective, and, to be fair, kitsch is making a comeback in the guise of vintage and retro. But please, one mannequin lamp or faux-leopard couch at a time, folks.
