Ambani is an Indian tycoon that runs the $90 billion Reliance Industries Limited, an oil and gas giant, and one of India’s most valuable companies. He is also its chairman, and biggest shareholder. Reliance was founded by his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, and was just a small textile manufacturer in 1966. After his father’s death in 2002, Mukesh and his younger sibling Anil, divided up the family empire. In 2016, Reliance launched the 4G phone service Jio, which sparked a price-war in India’s hyper competitive telecoms market. Jio has signed on more than 300 million customers by offering free domestic voice calls, cheap data services, and virtually free smartphones. He resides in Mumbai, India, and graduated with a B.S. in Engineering at the University of Bombay, but dropped out of Stanford after he enrolled to further his studies. He has been the richest man in Asia for some time.
