Mexico’s richest man, Helu is the owner of the conglomerate Grupo Carso. This conglomerate invests in many industries, such as media, energy, health care, retail, and real estate. Helu and his family control America Movil, Latin America’s biggest mobile telecom firm. Together with foreign telecom partners in 1990, Helu bought a stake in Telmex, Mexico’s only phone company. It is now part of America Movil. He also owns 17% of the New York Times, and several companies in Mexican construction, mining, real estate, and consumer goods. His net worth may have slightly dropped, but he is still the 8th richest man on the planet.
