Safra is a descendant from a banking family from Syria, and is considered the world’s richest banker. He owns Banco Safra in Brazil, the country’s 8th largest bank. In Switzerland, he put up J.Safra Sarasin, a bank created in a merger in 2013. His eldest son, Jacob, runs J.Safra Sarasin, Safra National Bank of New York, and several real estate holdings across the US. His other 2 sons, David and Alberto, manage the Brazil bank. Safra also owns 50% of banana grower Chiquita Brands International. The other 50% is owned by Brazilian billionaire, orange juice magnate, Jose Cutrale. Joseph acquired the remaining shares of the Safra Group of companies from his brother Moise Safra. Riches come and go, fortunes change over time. There will always be new names among billionaires, maybe one day a trillionaire will eventually emerge.
