For some time, Gates was considered the richest man on Earth (until Bezos overtook him). He is an American software developer, business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. Best known as the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, where he held the positions of chairman, CEO, president, and chief software architect. Surprisingly, he is a Harvard dropout. But he is definitely one of the most popular pioneers of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s. He was the largest individual shareholder of Microsoft until 2014. He has sold or given away much of his stake in Microsoft, investing in a mix of stocks and other assets. He and his wife chair the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he donated about $35 billion worth of Microsoft stock. He remains a board member of Microsoft, which he founded with Paul Allen, who died last 2018.
