She Was Once A Christian Scientist

Back when Ellen was a young girl, her family practiced a religion called Christian Scientists. Not only was the church incredibly strict, but they also didn’t believe in modern medicine and ‘that sickness is an illusion that can be cured by prayer.’ Ellen paid tribute to her father on her show when he died, sharing, “He was 92 years old. He had a good, long life. And he lived his life exactly how he wanted. He was Christian Science his entire life. He never had medicine his whole life. He never went to a doctor. We never had a vaccination. We never had medicine growing up and he lived to be 92.” Even Ellen had never tried aspirin until she herself was a teenager.
