She Came Out As Gay On Her Own Show

Ellen DeGeneres wasn’t always open about her sexuality. In fact, many people wondered about it but she never succumbed to the pressure and came out in her very own way. Back when her show was becoming a huge success back in the 90s, she was asked by the iconic TIME magazine editors to appear on their cover, to which she agreed. But right before it was released, she decided to tell everyone by having her character on an 1997 episode of Ellen come out as gay. The news made many of her sponsors very unhappy, with those like Chrysler even removing their sponsorship from her. But despite that, she just went on with her life and soon dated Anne Heche, and they were the only openly gay couple at that time.
