Don’t Expect Accommodations To Always Allow Foreigners

This may surprise most of us, but some local hotels and B&B’s do not cater to foreigners. This has nothing to do with them being rude and indifferent, it’s just some places have weird but strict government regulations. Even some areas in Beijing and Shanghai follow this regulation. Some will accept online bookings, but walk-ins are not allowed. But if you have the budget, all big hotels will accept foreigners. If you are on a strict budget, book at international hostels, they don’t have that locals-only restriction. Some have said that the government has imposed this rule to protect the tourists. Particularly places that do not have Eglish speaking staff members. But we may not know if that is a valid reason or not. Just be prepared, and always book accomodations ahead of your visit.
