Even though China is very technologically advanced, some places just don’t accept credit cards, particularly foreign ones. Some restaurants will be shocked and confused to see a credit card with the bill, they may not even know what to do with it. Most Chinese people do not use credit cards. Cash is still king in China, and not just any kind of cash. They only recognize and accept the Yuan, otherwise known as RMB. Your US dollars, Euros, or Hong Kong dollars will not be accepted. You may change your money into RMB at special international ATMs or at a foreign bank such as HSBC. You may also opt to make mobile payments like most residents. WeChat is the most popular chatting and payment app in China. But you have to install it before you visit the country. Best to have enough cash though.
