Don’t Worry If You Don’t Speak Croatian

Croatians have been welcoming tourists for centuries. They treat their guests well, and you won’t have a hard time finding someone who can speak English since a majority of Croatians are multilingual and over 80% of their population can competently communicate in English. While most Croatians, especially those in the service industry, can speak English, don’t assume everyone does and just raise your voice (because they do) to repeat the same English phrase because it’s possible that you came across someone who doesn’t understand or speak English. To avoid awkward cases like this, it will be helpful to learn a few basic words and phrases for hello (bok), good day (dobar dan), good morning (dobro jutro), good evening (dobra večer), goodbye (dovidenja), yes (da), no (ne), please (molim), thank you (hvala), excuse me (oprostite), and I don’t understand (ne razumijem).
