Croatians are very proud of their country, history, heritage, traditions, and identity. They’ve fought for their freedom for centuries, and they take their independence very seriously, so don’t make the mistake of ridiculing it. Don’t desecrate their coastline, lands, and historic monuments, and make sure you’re courteous when interacting with the locals. Don’t make fun of their red-and-white checkerboard design which the locals call “šahovnica” and don’t say anything against their national football team because they’re immensely passionate about this sport. Don’t complain to the locals about their rocky beaches, the sea urchins, the scorching sun, and the small-scale earthquakes because they are proud of their natural sites and resources despite the heat and the occasional mild tremors. Lastly, don’t insult their food by refusing to eat what they offer you and start looking for burgers and fries.
