So, you may be on a break, which means that you can ply yourself with lots of alcohol. If you were in an anglophone country, then it may be something expected. But remember, the French may love to drink, but they rarely get roaring drunk. They do love a glass of wine before and after a meal, but they never stumble home oblivious to their surroundings.
