The French people may still practice a few customs that are far different from yours, but when it comes to public spaces, they’re as modern as they come. If a seat frees up on a bus or a train, someone is bound to immediately move in and take the free spot. Everyone is entitled to that good space, and if you’re on the beach, same rules apply. But don’t wait for that spot because no one is going to move for you. Rather, be quick, strike up a conversation with the people next to you, and have fun. This is actually a good way to make friends.
