Unlike some countries, a mobile phone on the table might seem like the norm. In France, however, this is considered extremely uncouth. When you’re out with friends or having a couple of cups of coffee mid-afternoon, pay attention to the people on your table. They actually encourage people to talk to each other here. If you’re waiting for an important call, excuse yourself and leave the premises to talk to the person on the other end of the line. Then, tuck your phone back inside your back and resume the enlightening conversation.
