Be careful what you say in English when speaking near Germans. Most of them speak decent English, and if they overhear you negatively criticizing something about their place or food, or people, they will not hesitate to confront you and tell you off. They are a very straight-forward and proud people. Besides it is not polite to criticize. You would not want to be at the receiving end for sure. So always be polite and respectful. On the other hand, this could be beneficial, especially if you need directions or information. Most Germans can converse in English. So use this positively, not negatively.
