Expect Small Talk

Germans tend to mind their own business, and may appear cold in nature. But they are friendly and open-minded, but don’t expect to make small talk with them. It is not part of their culture. They are not used to hypothetical questions, or simple greetings that require simple answers. While most can speak English, it is not their first language, so be patient and understanding. If for example you greet a German with the common “How are you?’, expect a lengthy conversation on how they are feeling, what happened to make them feel such…get the picture? So understand, and whatever you do, don’t laugh at them. They are just trying to communicate with you. Always remember small talk is not for them.
