One thing you will notice almost immediately upon your arrival in Germany, is that there is always somebody staring at you. It’s not that you look funny or ridiculous (though most tourists do dress funny), or there is something wrong, it’s just that the people have a “staring” problem. But it is not meant to insult. It’s just their way and normal. Whether it is the kid across you in the subway, or the old lady at the bakery, intense eye contact is a daily occurence. You will get used to it eventually, and may find yourself staring as well. You can always smile at the person staring at you. Most likely they will smile back.
