Unfortunately, locals in Israel are not as polite and orderly when lining up for something. Expect some pushing, and even line jumpers. Trying to line-up at an elevator alone can be frustrating. What more for public transport. If someone cuts in front of you at a line, politely tell the person you were in line first, and to get at the back of the line. However, be prepared for battle…the choice is yours. Smiling does go a long way though, and your politeness may bring out the politeness and respect of the locals. No harm in trying.
