Don’t Forget To Respect Memorial Day

Source: http://www.zionismvictoria.org

There are 2 days of the year when the whole of Israel stops and stands still for a minute when a siren is heard, once in the evening, and once in the morning. This is on Memorial Day or Yom Hazikaron , for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel (April 17-18), and on Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 11-12), both held around spring. Do as the locals do, it is the respectful thing to do. Never forget this as you don’t want to look like an ignorant tourist. Or worse, a rude one. If you are walking, stop. If eating, stop and stand up. Unless of course, if you are disabled and in a wheelchair. Always respect traditions and customs of the nation you are visiting.
