This is a highly intelligent and active breed which needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation, or they could end up destructive. Great family dogs but if kept away from their loved ones, could develop anxiety and depression. They may seem aloof, but are very affectionate towards the family. They are a large breed of dogs that are part of the setter family, like the more popular Irish setter and English setter. They make excellent watchdogs and are wary of strangers. They generally get along with other animals, though some may get aggressive with other dogs. They were originally bred to hunt pheasant and quail. These dogs excel in agility and obedience competitions.
