One of the more ancient dog breeds existing more than 5,000 years, outlasting the Pharaohs themselves. Pharaohs used them to hunt down gazelles. Now the national dog of Malta, they are keen hunters, intelligent, but also stubborn. They were used to hunt rabbits in the rocky terrain of the Maltese islands.They are short-haired and aggressive to dogs of the same gender. They have a strong prey drive, and are not suitable for smaller breed dogs in the same space. Unlike most other sighthounds, these dogs are barkers. They prefer the outdoors to indoor living.
