Saint Bernard

Originally bred to guard St. Bernard Hospice and rescue injured travellers, this large breed is very gentle and patient, it has been accepted as an indoor dog that loves pampering and adores affection. Great for families. Because of their size, male St. Bernard’s may be dominant and aggressive to other male dogs. You have to train them to obey your commands early on to gain their respect. Trained adults are calm, relaxed, and sensible. Pups can be boisterous, silly, and mischievous. All St. Bernards need ample space in a roomy home, preferably with a spacious fenced lawn. They need daily exercise even if some seem like they don’t want it. They do love to romp in the snow, and pulling a cart or carrying a backpack gives them a purpose in life.
