Vakil Mosque

The beautiful Vakil Mosque took quite a few years to build, starting in 1751 and finishing by 1773, all during the Zand period. Later on, it was restored once more in the 19th century during what was known as the Qajar period, but still stands as one of the best structures to come out of the Zand period until today. The entire mosque spans 8,660 square meters, but unlike other prayer places, it only has two iwans instead of four. The night prayer hall, known as the Shabestan, has ‘48 monolithic pillars carved in spirals,’ aside from many other intricate designs. It’s definitely one of the more popular holy sites that tourists love to visit when in Iran.
