O’Charley’s has been a southern delicacy since it opened in 1971 in Nashville, Tennessee. It grew to opening outlets in about 17 states in the US, known for serving free pie on Wednesdays, and all-you-can-eat catfish on Thursdays. Seemed like these promo gimmicks would make the chain continue to expand. But, it has closed around 20 restaurants, including eight in one day, since 2016. More are scheduled to close shop within the year. It seems the millennials have once again led to the downfall of another chain. This market segment may prefer indie restaurants, or specialty cuisines. Most would also rather order food from their cellphones and have it delivered. The times are changing, and O’Charley’s has to keep up, or eventually disappear.
