Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews opened in the 1940s (originally Sam’s Red Robin). Families would frequent fast food outlets conveniently located in the malls, and Red Robin took advantage of this. But recently, it seems the strategy has backfired on them. Several establishments have closed, seven of them located in shopping malls. It still offers good meals, like the famous Red Robin burger which is award-winning. It is also known for its bottomless fries, and bottomless salads as well. But declining sales and rising labor costs have affected its “flight” and forced management to shut down several outlets. The restaurant was bought by local Seattle restaurateur Gerry Kingen from the original owner in 1969. The first franchised outlet was in Yakima, Washington in 1979. Hopefully, the chain can recover, and soar to the skies once more.
