Americans just love buffet-style dining, and there are a lot of buffets all over. But trends are changing, and some places are more affected than others. Ovation Brands, the company that owns HomeTown Buffet, Old Country Buffet, Ryan’s, and Fire Mountain, has abruptly closed more than half its restaurants in 2016, and filed for bankruptcy. Shocked employees mentioned they were not properly informed about the closures, and went to work only to find out they no longer had jobs. The management still has to answer their accusations. But the declining trend continues to bother the brand HomeTown Buffet, and it may not survive 2020. Some speculate that it is the changing eating habits of those who prefer healthier, and smaller portions for meals. Whatever the reason is for the closures, surely their employees could be informed ahead of time, they are messing with people’s lives here.
