When a place is mistakenly reported that it has closed, it does seem that it’s doom is fast approaching. Especially if it is the last outlet surviving. Howard Johnson’s in Lake George, New York is still fighting for survival. The chain was a favorite for travellers in the 1960s and 1970s, with over a thousand roadside locations. It was known for its 28 flavors of ice cream, fried clams, and other snack favorites. The outlets were also famous for their orange roofs, and the iconic weathervane This former empire was founded in 1925 by Howard Deering Johnson, who opened a small pharmacy. Lots of the revenues came from the soda fountain, his ice cream was high in butterfat, but extremely delicious. America just loved it. Sadly, times have changed, there are more competitors, and tastes do change.
