Many believe that pizzerias are the best restaurant formats today. Sadly, it is not going well for the relative newcomer, Pie Five Pizza Co. While most declining restaurants have been in existence for about half a century, Pie Five isn’t even old enough to get a driver’s license. It only started in 2011, and may not even last a decade. The Dallas-based chain has gone from around 100 stores to just 58 stores within the last two years. Sales are definitely not doing well. September of 2019 saw some changes the company undertook to arrest their declining sales problem. They hired some consultants and marketing experts, as well as a new CEO to oversee the transformation. Brandon Solano explained that the main problem was that many customers didn’t know what Pie Five stands for. Wow, they only figured that out recently? Well, Solano hired a research firm to do extensive studies to figure out how to attract a new customer base. It seems like a simple solution actually, just add “pizza” to the brand. But then again, we don’t claim to be experts.
