Also called sesquipedalophobia, hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, the irrational fear of abnormally long words, is one of the longest words in the dictionary—we appreciate the irony, with all due respect to hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobiacs out there. Not only is it a challenge to read and write, it is also one of the most difficult words to pronounce. With a whopping 36 letters strung together in no seeming order (although research yields a logical etymology behind the lengthy word), it proves quite the mouthful and puts Mary Poppins’ famed “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” to shame.
