17. Alliumphobia: Fear of garlic

While there are those who find the pungent smell of fresh, raw garlic mildly off-putting, alliumphobiacs have an over-the-top, almost Nosferatu-like reaction to everything about the otherwise beloved spice. A person with this strange fear will exhibit symptoms of a full-blown panic attack at the mere sight and smell (they wouldn’t dare taste it!) of the bulbous veggie. Forget about warding vampires; people with alliumphobia want nothing to do with the popular ingredient, and often shun other vegetables (onions, shallots, leeks, and chives) in the same family of monocotyledonous flowering plants.
