Many Africans believe this to be the deadliest snake, it is a fierce and aggressive snake that is also the fastest land snake around. It can move as fast as 5 meters per second, and there is no way to outrun it. It is large, and the 2nd longest venomous snake in the world. It will deliver multiple strikes, unlike other snakes that strike once – that is why it is most feared. The venom is of low molecular weight and as a result is able to spread rapidly. It is estimated that its venom needs to be only about 10 to 15mg to kill an adult human, but it averages about 120mg of venom in a single bite, but it could go as high as 400mg. There is an anti venom for the bite, but if untreated, the bitten will not survive. Although antivenom has saved lots of lives, mortality due to black mamba envenomation is still at 14%. Truly a very deadly snake.
