Ocellated Carpet Viper

Source: https://www.naturepl.com

This viper actually kills more people in Africa than any other snake combined….around 20,000 per year among agricultural workers. It has small round white spots in regular rows down its back. Its venom is slow acting, and largely hemotoxic in action. A bite causes extensive pain and swelling, leading to massive tissue damage and blistering. Within a day, bleeding throughout the body and collapse of the circulatory system is expected. Transfusions may help the antivenom success rate. But antivenoms from other carpet vipers may be ineffective. Not as deadly as the mambas. But a sure killer. Avoid this viper if you can.
