This cobra frequents several Central Asian countries to the south-east of the Caspian Sea. Its venom is the most potent of the cobras, although it usually injects only a small dosage of venom per bite. A bite contains both neurotoxins and cytotoxins. If untreated, it will result in fatalities 70% of the time. Antivenom from other cobra species are ineffective for the Caspian Cobra bite. This is a heavy-bodied snake which reaches an average of 3.5 feet. Colors range from yellowish-brown to pale brown along its back. Like other cobras, it can expand its rib cage to form a hood. It is also aggressive but will not go after humans unless provoked.
