Also known as the Chain Viper, this snake is found predominantly in Southeast Asia, China, India, and Taiwan. Their habitat is found in bushy areas and grasslands. The main prey is rodents, and so they may also venture near farms, and other places rodents frequent, usually near human settlements. They can reach a length of about 5.5 feet, and are typically yellow, brown, or tan colored. Doses of about 40 – 70 mg of their venom are highly lethal to humans. While antivenom is readily available, pain from the bite will continue for about a month, and can cause severe tissue damage. 29% of survivors also suffer from damage to the pituitary glands. Best avoid this snake if you happen to see one.
