Inland Taipan

Known also as the “fierce snake,” the bite from an inland taipan can kill a human within an hour. The species is endemic to semi-arid regions of central east Australia. Aboriginal tribes have named the snake Dandarabilla. Its venom is considered to be the most toxic of all snakes. One bite can kill 100 adults. It is a hunter of mammals, so its venom is specially adapted to kill warm-blooded species quickly. It is fast and strikes accurately, usually multiple times per attack. It is a shy snake, unlike the aggressive coastal taipan. It will protect its territory though, but is seldom seen by humans as it lives in remote areas. The word “fierce” is a description of the venom, not the temperament. While the snake will avoid you, it is best you do the same.
