The name says it all. It is an elapid snake (like cobras and mambas) though it looks like a viper. Either way, it is one of the more dangerous snakes, and is found in Australia, New Guinea, and surrounding regions. They are short snakes, with a triangular head, but possess large fangs. They also have a lure at the tailend which resembles a worm. They are normally black or grey, but some have been noticed to have a reddish-yellow, greenish-grey, or brown hue.It is an ambush predator, and lies in wait for prey. A human has at most 6 hours to get antivenom once bitten. But antivenom will not completely heal the person, it only slows down the progression of symptoms to a degree. Similar to other toxins, the venom will cause paralysis and ultimately, respiratory system shutdown.
