Sitting near the border of California and Nevada is Death Valley, home of the Furnace Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole par 70 course which at 214 feet below sea level, makes it the lowest elevation golf course in the world. Temperatures in the aptly named course can get so high in the summer, reaching 130°F, that you limit your movement as much as possible, especially the practice strokes, which is considered the main reason for heatstroke here, hence the name of the tournament, Heatstroke Open. Braving it will earn you a certificate and a T-shirt, if not an actual heatstroke. Golfers would normally avoid the water hazards but you may just find yourself jumping in one of them because of the heat.
