One Boat Golf Club (Ascension Island)

Source: https://blogspot.com

Located south of the equator in the South Atlantic Ocean and part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, Ascension Island is a volcanic island that is home to One Boat Golf Club, where an 18-hole (par 67) course is dubbed by its own government as the worst golf course in the world. Here, the greens are called “browns,” as they are made of crushed compacted lava and beach sand that have been smoothed flat with diesel oil. Volcanic emissions can be seen on the edges of the fairways, which are marked by large boulders of volcanic rock, and to make sure that the course has a stable playing surface, oil is applied to the browns every few months.
