There were a number of athletes that were targeted, and many lost their lives because of it. Polish downhill skier, Bronislaw Czech, was told that if he didn’t teach German kids his skills, he would be forced to go to Auschwitz and die. Because he refused, he was sent to the camp and lost his life there. Another was Victor Perez from France. The Jewish boxer was also sent to Auschwitz and made to fight 140 times for the amusement of the SS officers. He too, died in a death march in 1945. Supposedly there were almost 50 Olympic athletes that were targeted just because of their Jewish background.
