First time tourists should definitely include the Alphorn as part of their itinerary when visiting Switzerland. The alphorn or alpenhorn or alpine horn is a labrophone, consisting of a straight several-meter-long wooden natural horn of conical bore, with a wooden cup-shaped mouthpiece. It is used by mountain dwellers in the Swiss Alps, Austrian Alps, Bavarian Alps in Germany and French Alps. In this country, a number of Swiss mountain villages will let you try out the alphorn on a tour.  Moreover, there are annual festivals and people who play to keep the tradition alive.  So, for a very immersive experience, try blowing an Alphorn when in Switzerland.
