Don’t Expect Great Customer Service

Restaurants and cafes in the Netherlands are not customer-oriented. Servers will not diligently attend to customers, and may leave you for quite some time. Shocking but true. It seems like they don’t really care if you order or not. You have to flag down the waiter if you need something, or go up to the front to ask for service. Best to be prepared. Otherwise, you may end up waiting forever to be served. But don’t lose your temper with the servers. Common sense will tell you why. You don’t want an angry server to spit on your food before serving it to you. Not that this has happened, but best to be careful.  Well, you don’t really have to tip as well. Tit for tat as they say.
