Amsterdam is two-wheel prepared and most go around in bicycles, scooters, or just walk since you can get to almost any place with a bike or by walking. Renting a car just to go around will be actually frustrating, as streets are narrow (17th-century), and you most likely will be stuck behind the wheel for some time. If you plan to go further than the city, there are buses, trams, and trains, which will get you there for a cheaper price. You really don’t need a car.
